How Mews powers the next era of hospitality with secure, automated payments.

Mews is the "operating system" for modern hospitality, providing a cloud-native platform that unifies guest, operational, and financial workflows. From independent hotels to global chains, Mews helps hoteliers move from property management to profit management.

Background
From a boutique hotel in Prague to a global unicorn
Founded in 2012 by Richard Valtr (a former hotelier himself), Mews was born out of frustration with legacy hotel systems.
Based in Amsterdam, the company has grown into a Series D powerhouse with a $1.2B+ valuation, powering over 15,000 properties across 85 countries.
The Challenge
In the world of hospitality, reservation data flows in from everywhere—Online Travel Agents (OTAs), booking engines, and concierge apps.
This creates a massive "attack surface" for sensitive card data. For Mews, the central challenge was protecting this influx of data without slowing down the guest experience.
A central nervous system without the pain
As a platform that acts as the "central nervous system" for hotels, Mews couldn't afford to have sensitive card data sitting in its own database.
"Mews no longer allows to enter cardholder data into unsecured fields... we strive to ensure the system is fast, always available, and secure."
The Solution
Mews integrated PCI Proxy to act as a security filter between the world’s booking channels and their own platform.
Filtering out the risk
When a booking comes in from a third party, the card details are routed through PCI Proxy before they ever reach Mews.
"The data transferred from reservation platforms is automatically filtered, and sensitive payment data tokenized before it even arrives at the Mews system."
PCI Proxy detects the card details, stores them in a secure vault, and replaces them with a universal token.
The Result
By ensuring they "never touch" the actual card data, Mews achieved a massive reduction in PCI scope and overhead.
One token to rule them all
The universal format of the tokens allows Mews to facilitate automated billing across all connected payment gateways, ensuring a seamless journey from booking to checkout.
"Mews protects itself not only against potential data theft, but also minimizes the costs and complexity of its own PCI compliance."
The Conclusion
For a high-growth platform like Mews, security must be invisible.
By externalizing payment data storage, they’ve turned a potential liability into a scalable asset.
A tokenized approach is the only way for a modern PMS to remain "agile" while staying "air-tight" across thousands of global properties.
